Preoperative Considerations
Anesthesia/Positioning:
- Open or protected airway
- If orally intubated, ensure tube is always protected during procedure
Armamentarium:
- 2-0 silk, nylon, prolene
- Scissor
Technique
- The traction suture can be used in lieu of a clamp or penetrating towel clip
- It allows for good retraction with minimal risk of inadvertently tearing or crushing tissue
- Needle can be passed from ventral to dorsal or vice versa
- The suture is essentially a large horizontal mattress
- Tie an air knot to prevent tissue ischemia (particularly for long cases)
