Armamentarium:

  • Drain (see Surgical Drains)
  • Suction Bulb PRN
  • #15 blade
  • Hemostat
  • Drain Suture- 2-0 silk or nylon

Postoperative Considerations

Immediate:

  • Remove after output < ~20ml/day
  • If open skull injury or concern for CSF leak, remove from suction & test for beta transferrin

Follow Up:

  • After removal, prudent to suture drain site closed
